Don't forget the long term results of the 'Purple' wedding though......
It has much more widespread impact than the Red wedding did, and infinitely more satisfying

Well, that can be debated. If the red wedding would not have happened, would it have lead to a strong, united and independent North, maybe allied with the Dorne and the Vale of Arryn, while the middle kingdoms are tearing themselves apart, allowing the North to fully focus its powers on things behind the wall? Instead the whole North is nothing but a backwater now, unable to lend manpower or leadership against the Others invasion...
